MAA 3. Opera production experience: director. Internship

Period of the EOA module in 2021-2022:

January/February/March 2021

To experience the different sides of your profession in the context of an opera production. The students will learn the key skills to perform their role in the context of the interdisciplinary art form par excellence. Specialization is required from all those who take part in an opera production, regarding to technical and stylistic skills.

During this workshop the participants prepare a complete opera.

The title chosen by Conservatorium Maastricht for their 2022 opera production will be Les Contes d’Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach.

The coaching includes:

  • working with a professional conductor/director
  • a professional stage director individual vocal coaching on style, interpretation and applied technique by our vocal staff.
  • language coaching (depending on the language of the programmed opera)

The module will conclude with 4 fully staged performances of the opera, accompanied by the ensemble of the Maastricht Conservatorium, in collaboration with Opera Zuid.

LOD 2. Full opera production: J. Haydn – Il mondo della luna

Description of the module:

J. Haydn – Il mondo della luna

This course offers an opportunity to perform an opera role in a full-scale production. The module consists of a period of musical preparation with vocal coaching and interpretation, followed by role analysis and stage rehearsals. The performance is staged with orchestra, original sets, lighting, costumes and make-up. The module will contain vocal coaching and musical preparation in original language, individually and in a group, practical role analysis and practice for the stage.

Full methodology program concerning the preparation of all kind of auditions for Opera Houses, Agencies, Opera Studios, etc. Individual teaching with full recognition of the artistic potential and possibilities of each student in agreement with the international professional context.

Meetings with the recognized personalities of the operatic world and auditions for Swiss and international professional partners.

Content:

  • Vocal technique and style coaching in contemporary repertoire.
  • Vocal improvisation and contemporary vocalities.

  • Masterclass contemporary repertoire (methodology of scores lecture)
  • Contemporary Chamber Music
  • Public performances and discussion of all requirements of the chosen repertoire.

Full methodology programme about the different approaches to contemporary repertoire and contemporary vocalities. A choice of repertoire according to the student’s needs. Individual teaching with full recognition of the artistic potential and possibilities of each student.
