The G. Verdi State Conservatory in Ravenna, already inserted within a flourishing artistic context, deserves its presence on the national territory at the operatic level.

Ravenna, in addition to being known as the city of mosaics with an ancient flavor that immediately takes us back to a glorious past today it is visited and esteemed by the whole world also for its musical production.

Since 1990, one of the most important multidisciplinary festivals in Italy has been held in our city: the Ravenna festival, the precursor of a rich tradition of seasons and concerts dating back much earlier. Since 1723, the Teatro Comunicativo existed in the city, considered “among the best in the Papal States” and from 1826, following the birth of the Philharmonic Academy, a high-profile musical teaching activity began.

An illustrious student from Ravenna, the protagonist of Renewal in the direction of the opera house, was Angelo Mariani, defined by Giuseppe Verdi as “the greatest Italian conductor of his time.” In 1901, the city council named the Philharmonic Academy after Giuseppe Verdi, from whom our conservatory takes its name.

Ravenna stands out from other cities for its high standard of living, offering both high artistic education and an excellent tourist organization that provides a wide range of jobs, especially to students.

In 2023, thanks to the activity of Ravenna Tourism, a service specialized in the development of local tourism, with the tourism promotion campaign #iovadoaRavenna it was awarded in the category “Italy that communicates Italy” in the XII edition of the “Italy that communicates” Award, promoted by UNA – United Communication Companies to celebrate Italian excellence, giving value to all sectors: from brand communication to social media, from entertainment to music.

Just think of the proximity of various attractions of entertainment such as the Mirabilandia park which offers many students secure work every year and organizes many high-level musical shows inside it.

Student life

A student who comes to study in Ravenna not only has the opportunity to gain experience in the artistic field given the multitude of musical events that are proposed every week in our city but also easily finds a job offer such that he can more easily support the costs of living.

Our conservatory being a more intimate reality is able to develop a better relationship between student and teacher where the maestro accompanies the student by the hand towards the world of artistic work.

For us it is essential that students can develop growth in the work field to go with more awareness after graduation in the world of work with more certainty about their technical and organizational skills.

Precisely for this reason during the year many concerts and free masterclasses are organized every month for the interiors where students can compare and grow with high-level artists.

Another wonderful reality for singers is our choir 1685, founded in 2018 on the initiative of Anna Maria Storace and Antonio Greco, which immediately after its establishment was involved by Ravenna Festival in important projects, such as the concert with the Tallis Scholars in 2019 or the performance of Montalbetti’s Teodora with Roberta Mameli in 2020, up to the participation in Così fan tutte in the last Autumn Trilogy, which took us all the way to Oman. These are experiences that such young people can hardly live in a Conservatory that, in addition to guaranteeing interested students a more thorough and comprehensive choral education, also participates in projects regarding contemporary music such as the opera Dilexi by maestro Comitini which was performed in July 2024 for the Ravenna festival.

The previous year, LabRAM, a laboratory for artistic research in music, has also started.

Accommodation

Students of the conservatory have access to agreements for access to theaters, canteens, art galleries and artistic and opera festivals. Inside our detached department Polo delle arti in piazza John Fitzgerald, in addition to school activities, thanks to the union of the conservatory with the ISFAV Academy of Visual Arts, we promote the creation of art exhibitions, small concerts and conferences of various kinds where students can grow immersed in art at 360 degrees.

In our city, in addition to the continuous activity of the Alighieri and Rasi Theaters, we also have the proximity of the Riccardo Muti Opera Academy.
