Living and studying in the city of Vilnius

Vilnius is the largest Lithuanian city with about 0,5 million inhabitants. There are nearly two thousand medieval, gothic, renaissance and baroque buildings, among them 40 churches. In 1994 the Old Town of Vilnius was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. During the 19th and 20th centuries Vilnius was a centre of Jewish culture, art and religion, and was therefore called the Northern Jerusalem.

The history of Vilnius counts nearly 700 years, and the city was known for its multiculturalism and tolerance of other beliefs. There are 9 universities and 6 colleges, among them Vilnius University, which is known as one of the oldest in Middle and Eastern Europe, and two art schools – Vilnius Fine Arts Academy and Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA). Many students choose to study in Vilnius because of a vibrant cultural life, better job opportunities, and international study environment.

LMTA offers short courses, exchange periods within Erasmus+ and Nordplus mobility programmes as well as full-time studies in music at three study cycles: bachelor, master, and doctoral. Exchange students can take elective courses at three higher education institutions in Vilnius: Vilnius University, Vilnius Fine Arts Academy, and Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
